IFF 2010’s short film & video competition has attracted an exciting array of films from some of the best new filmmaking talent in Australia, New Zealand, India and beyond. IFF 2010 will be presenting three best short film awards at our Gala Awards Night in Melbourne on 11th March, 2010.

 

The Australian and New Zealand winner's will each receive a return airfare to India while the Indian & Beyond winner will receive a return airfare to Australia to attend the Gala Awards Night.

The short films are being judged by a panel of highly respected film directors and producers, from India and Australia. Shortlisted films will be screened at the festival – so come along and see the best of what’s new in Indian and Australian filmmaking!

JUDGING PANEL

 
1. KUNAL KOHLI - Director

Kunal Kohli is a well-known writer and director of Hindi films. He has written and directed four feature films to date, one of which he co-produced. His 2004 film ‘Hum Tum’ was one of the biggest hits of 2004, winning five Filmfare Awards and earning him the award for Best Director. Kunal began his career as a film critic and host of a television show on Bollywood movies. He has also directed 24 music videos.

 
2. KABIR KHAN - Director

Kabir Khan is a film graduate from Jamia, New Delhi and his film and documentary assignments have taken him to over 60 countries. Kabir won the prestigious National Award in 2006 for best New Director for the film Kabul Express. His second feature film, New York met with critical acclaim all over the world. At Singapore AFFF 2007, Kabir received the Best Director’s Award and the Purple Orchid Trophy for Best Film (chosen by a jury comprising international press critics). He has directed many award winning documentaries that have to their credit the Grand Jury Award at Film South Asia 2000, Best National Film Award at Mumbai International Film Festival 2002 and National Critics awards. 

 

 
3. MICK MOLLOY - Actor / Writer / Producer

Mick Molloy is one of Australia’s most recognized comedians. Mick was nominated, alongside his brother Richard, for Best Original Screenplay at the 2002 Australian Film Institute (AFI) Awards for the feature film Crackerjack. He also received Australian Star of the Year at the 2003 Australian Movie Convention for his acting performances in the films Crackerjack and Bad Eggs. Mick co-wrote, produced and starred in the feature film BoyTown (2006) and also produced and directed the feature length documentary Tackle Happy (2000).
  

 
4. RAJKUMAR HIRANI - Writer / Director

A Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) graduate, Raju has written and directed two of India's most beloved films. His first two films Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munnabhai have given him the image of a realistic comic film maker. His recent release - 3 Idiots is making a big impact on the youth of India. Raju is the recipient of many Indian jury and critics’ awards for direction, screenplay writing and editing.

 
5. IMTIAZ ALI - Writer/ Director/ Editor

Imtiaz Ali began his career directing TV programs for Zee TV and Star Plus. After receiving critical acclaim with Socha Na Tha, his directorial debut, he made Jab We Met, which was a major hit. It won him a Filmfare award for Best Dialogue. His latest direction Love Aaj Kal was a successful crowd puller as well. These films have helped establish him as one of the best romantic comedy film directors in the Indian film industry.
